The McNulty family has owned and operated Gleneagles County Club for over a half-century. The two, 18-hole championship courses have matured into classic traditional golf courses.
For over 75 years, Gleneagles has challenged professional and amateur golfers. Tree-lined fairways; deeply-sculpted bunkers; rolling terrain and imposing water hazards provide challenge and enjoyment for golfers of all skills and abilities.
Founded in 1924, Gleneagles was originally known as Twin Eagles. In 1951, John and Edward McNulty purchased the courses from the Wymers and it's been cultivated by the McNulty family ever since - for three generations!
The two courses were, are and will always remain - traditional golf courses, giving golfers a grand experience no matter their skill level or abilities.
IPGA Hall of Fame architect Charles Maddox designed a couple gems and we've seen no reason to alter perfection! Any changes to the course have been made without changing Mr. Maddox' original intent.
In 1958 and '59, Gleneagles hosted the Chicago Open, a PGA Tour stop. Ken Venturi won both years. (Top prize money: $9,000!) He came back 30 years later, remembered every green and even noticed every course change! "He was 30 years older and drove the ball 30 yards farther!"
Mike McNulty recalls. All the big names of the day played here including Julius Boros, Gary Player, Fred Haas, Gene Littler and Sam Snead.
As our clientele built up and outings became more and more popular, we began to perfect the fine art of the shotgun start. Today, Gleneagles proudly proclaims itself, "Home of the Shotgun Start."
